Welcome to Excuse me. I’m reading. Book Club!
Book Club is meant to be fun and interactive and bonding, but there are some ground rules to go over before we get into the fun part.
Hate will not be tolerated. This is a general rule for this entire online space, but in Book Club, discussions can lead to people sharing opposing views—we want this! This is the beauty of Book Club, but let’s be mindful of other people’s experiences, backgrounds, and be considerate and respectful.
Meaghan will choose a book each month and announce what’s next on the reading list after we meet for Book Club. We will always read something, be it fiction or non-fiction, written by a female, non-binary or queer author. Recommendations are welcome! If you’ve read something you think would be a good fit, send an email to imspeakingnewsletter@gmail.com.
There’s no requirement to come every month. Whether you’re busy one month or are just not interested in the book we’re reading, you are welcome to skip Book Club. Each month there will be a sign up sheet for those interested in attending. This will help us all commit to reading, and keep the group at a reasonable capacity so we all have a chance to share our takes.
Ingest the book however you please. It’s totally up to you how you get your hands on a copy of the book, whether you prefer audiobooks, borrowing from the library or a friend, or scooping up a copy from your local bookstore.
It’s really important to sign up! Because this is how you will be sent the link to the meeting every month!
Come with questions, one of the book’s themes, characters you really want to discuss or anything else related to the reading.
Book Club will be held the last Wednesday of every month at 8p.m. EST. This is an event for paid subscribers, so consider upgrading your subscription to join in if you’re a free subscriber.
Have fun! We’re all here for our common love of books and reading, so let’s enjoy each other’s company, critiques and have a great time!
