Welcome to Excuse me. I’m speaking!
What it’s all about:
Excuse me. I’m speaking. is all about amplifying women’s voices, experiences and thoughts. It’s a little feminist, a little journalistic, and deeply curious. After spending over a decade in the media industry, I saw stories about women and women’s issues get passed over time and time again. And when they did get picked up, there was often no critical insight into the issues.
This newsletter intends to change that—to give a platform to women’s issues and to women to share their stories. It’s a space for big-picture questions to be asked and explored rather than ignored. It’s a place where we can be loud and uninterrupted.
What to expect:
By subscribing, you automatically become part of the community, the club, the hub of amazing like-minded thinkers. You will also get access to two free posts a week on Tuesdays and Fridays.
Paid subscribers will get all of these treats as well as a long-form essay on Sunday mornings to marvel over with coffee in bed or whatever other weekend pleasures you partake in. Our monthly book club, Excuse me. I’m reading. (launching October 2024) is also exclusively available for paid subscribers, so if you want to read some great critique and chat about books with fun new people, then consider upgrading your subscription (only $8 CAD a month).
Who has the audacity?
Hi, that would be me, Meaghan Archer. I’m a Canadian journalist, writer and editor who wants to use her loud mouth for good. My entire professional career, I’ve watched news media shrink, physically from layoffs and buyouts and closures, to only covering the big hitting stories. Oftentimes, this means that stories about women’s justice and social issues don’t get the coverage they deserve, the public is left in the dark, and the big questions about what we need to do next to move things forward are being neither asked nor answered.
So here I am, ready to use my journalistic skills, loud mouth, and overthinking brain to give you the content you’ve been waiting for (or maybe didn’t know you needed until now). Every piece of writing published here is independently researched, sourced and written by me. I sincerely thank you for being here, for being interested, supportive and staying curious.
If you have a story you want to share or an issue you want to see covered, shoot me an email imspeakingnewsletter@gmail.com.
